Friday, January 8th, 4:30am. My alarm went off, I changed clothes, did some super last minute packing, & headed to the airport.

The night before, was my last night at the dance studio. My dance family has been so sweet and left me with lots of notes, little gifts, snacks, and ultimately made me feel alllll the love. Needless to say, we were all pretty teary eyed.

While heading to the airport, going through security, and pretty much the entire flight to Atlanta, all I could think was, “I cant believe I won’t see any of my people again for eleven months.”

After arriving in Atlanta, I was met with big hugs by some squad-mates that had arrived a little earlier. Almost immediately, I dropped my bags & a squad-mate & I took an uber to get brunch. (We had chicken, egg, and cheese biscuits and they were FANTASTIC!) Then we ubered back to the airport to wait for our shuttle.

As we were driving back to camp, it still hadn’t clicked. I was excited. I was sad. I missed my people and couldn’t think of anything else. However, the God we serve is so dang sweet!! I played my head down and simply said, “Lord you say you’re near to the broken-hearted and my heart is broken. Comfort me.” I immediately lifted my head and the sun began to peek through the clouds and shine through the bare winter trees. The sadness lifted. My prayer was answered and I was able to enjoy the excitement of launch!

By the time we arrived at camp, the sun was setting. We went through registration and I walked down to our room. The entire squad was in one room and within the room were taped off rectangles for each team. The rectangles were where we would eat, sleep, and reside for the next 4 days.

At first, it was kind of disappointing. We couldn’t hug our other squad-mates that we had been missing for months. We couldn’t even hardly see some of them because they were so far across the room. However, when it was time to worship, I found myself thanking God for that rectangle. It was just what I needed and provided a way for my team to create a more intimate relationship.

Since then, we’ve been worshipping, sharing meals, doing sessions, and enjoying each others company. Tomorrow morning we will all fly out to Costa Rica, serve there for a month or so, then head to Guatemala!!!

Exciting things are happening with H Squad. Please continue to pray for the health of  everyone, nerves to be calmed, and that we could clearly hear the voice of the Lord throughout our time on the field.

Love y’all!! – Jamey
