Exactly one year ago, I landed in Guatemala. I knew there was some disease around the world that was spreading and potentially dangerous, but none-the-less, I was bright eyed, filled with hope.
I took off on a flight from DFW to Miami, no changes in that ‘disease’. Then I hopped on a plane Miami to Guatemala City, still not much except they checked my temperature before leaving the airport. My sweet friends picked me up and we headed out to Sololá (about four hours from Guatemala City). Later that night, we saw on the news that Guatemala was closing their borders and the airport was shutting down almost immediately. I quickly changed my flights and headed home the very next day. I remember spending the whole flight home thanking God for the opportunity to go to Guatemala and that I was able to drop off all the generously gifted donations. I literally made a list of ways God showed His faithfulness throughout the entire 24hr adventure to Guatemala.
Please know this was difficult. I had to consciously seek God through the whole thing, which is not easy and not necessarily something I would’ve done years prior.
A year ago, I had no idea if I’d ever be back. I had no idea what the world would look like. I had no idea if overseas missions would even be possible.
Fast forward to now. I’m sitting here, writing this in Guatemala. Serving God & loving people. Except this time, I‘ve been here almost two weeks (and still have 6 left). Coronavirus is still very prevalent, but God made a way.
Through the flight (this time around), I felt such a peace. A beautiful redemption. I had music playing and the moment the wheels of the plane touched the ground the song was “never once have we ever walked alone, never once have You left us on our own, You are faithful, God, You are faithful.” And WOW that had never been truer than after walking through this past year of a pandemic.
Never once were we alone in this.
Never once did He ever leave us.
God is, was, and always will be faithful.
This is a powerful post!!
You are such a focused young lady that knows our God and will not stop at nothing short of her goal. Best of luck to you. Always keep that positive disposition and know that God is walking beside you. Blessings!!
Awesome post. I remember that day last year so clearly. Amazing that you are back there one year later and you brought several friends.
